Surge Protection & Rewiring in Wall Township, Wall

Project Details

About This Project

A Wall Township homeowner noticed flickering lights and occasional appliance resets during storms and contacted JLC Electrical Contractors LLC for an evaluation. Our inspection revealed two problems: aging cloth-wrapped wiring from the original 1960s construction and no surge protection on the main panel, leaving expensive electronics and appliances vulnerable to voltage spikes.

JLC Electrical Contractors LLC installed a whole-house surge protection device (SPD) rated at 50,000 amps directly at the main panel, providing Type 2 protection for every circuit in the home. Additionally, the crew rewired the most critical circuits, replacing degraded cloth-insulated Romex with modern NM-B cable and adding AFCI breakers to bedroom circuits as required by current NJ residential code. Junction boxes were replaced and all connections were re-made with proper wire nuts and torque specifications.

The homeowner immediately noticed the flickering had stopped, and the surge protector has already absorbed two significant events during thunderstorms, as indicated by the unit's LED status display. The partial rewiring also brought the home closer to full code compliance and significantly reduced the risk of electrical fire from the deteriorated original wiring.
